Have something to say, and say it as clearly as you can. That is the only secret of style. ~Matthew Arnold, British poet, and cultural critic
Blog Writers’ Tips
Possessing the skill and the ability to express one’s self in both an easy to understand and interesting style is the key to achieving success through blog writing. It’s also an easy way to get published before embarking on a full-blown book.
Here are some key points to follow:
- Write about ideas that are timely and interesting. Ideas are the heart of an informative piece.
- Organize those ideas in a logical and effective way. Organization refers to the order of ideas and the way the writer moves from one idea to the next.
- Find your authentic style. Is it formal or casual? Is it friendly and inviting or reserved and standoffish? Do you naturally infuse humor? Voice is the expression of the writer’s personality through words. Use your “Voice” in a way that speaks intimately to your reader. Choose words that are specific and memorable.
- Use a mix of sentence structure and style. Mingle sentences starting with different parts of speech; long and short in length; introduce questions that make the writer think. The variety of styles adds rhythm to your writing and makes the reading more enjoyable.
- Grammar and spell-check your work. Unless you’re already a famous author, use conventional punctuation, spelling, and grammar that produces clear and easy-to-read content.
Whether writing for your own blog or contributing on a guest blog, your reader will thank you!
Enjoy the process.
