Mindfulness is a way of befriending ourselves and our experience. ~Jon Kabat-Zinn

At times like we are in now, challenging, to say the least, we are given an opportunity to observe ourselves and see how we react to, or meet change. We are given a chance to be mindful.

I don’t often talk about my personal life in my tips, but because of the great shift many of us have been experiencing, I thought to offer the following. Since coming to Los Angeles, I have become involved with InsighLA, a Mindful Meditation organization based in Santa Monica, California. https://insightla.org/location/santa-monica-meditation-center/ You can cut and paste into a browser if interested.
Currently, all their classes are online and offered on a donation basis.

Learning to mindfully meditate and grow intimately familiar with how my mind works, has given me the opportunity to shift reactions that create stress and suffering to responses that promote my well being. It is a practice, like playing an instrument or learning a subject, that gleans more results the more time and attention given.

If you battle with the – not so helpful thoughts and messages of the mind – the practice is extremely helpful. It will also benefit your writing practice as you gain perspective and distance from your inner critic. It has worked that way for me and for many of the clients I work with.

The Dalai Lama says, If you don’t have 30 minutes a day to meditate, you should meditate for an hour. The nice thing is, now that many of us are saving the travel time to work or have fewer social obligations to meet, it might be a good practice to take on. Quieting the mind and being aware of your thoughts for even 10 minutes before you start writing, will help you focus.

There are many sights besides the one above that offer mindful meditation. If this sounds good, finding one that speaks to you can be a life-changer. I highly recommend it.

Stay well, be safe, be grateful.
