Intentions and Goals – The Profound Pair

Intention is the fuel that helps us reach our goals.
Intention focuses our mind, anchors us in the present moment and guides us step-by-step as we strive towards our goals.  Without it, we are like a ship at sea without a captain to stay on course. This is true with any goal we set, and so it applies to our writing journey.

First, decide what you want to achieve. Maybe you want to write or finish your book in six months or by the end of this year. Once you’ve set a realistic goal based on the time you can devote to it, ask yourself these questions.

  • What intention(s) do I need to stay on course?
  • You probably know what takes you off track. What will keep you on track?
  • What is the one intention you can set today that will help you take the first step toward reaching the goal you set for your writing practice or project?

Setting an intention activates a part of your receptivity. Once you set a goal, the power of setting an intention or intentions is going to help you get there.

Three simple steps that always help me are:

  1. Like everything else I want to remember, I put it on my calendar.
  2. Like everything else I want to accomplish, I block out the time needed on my calendar.
  3. To make sure I follow through, I share it with someone I trust to keep me accountable.

Use the momentum of the New Year to help you use “wise intention” to reach your goals.

Enjoy!
