When you go to the gym, consciously and subconsciously your muscles know they’re going to get a workout. Likewise, flexing your writing muscle produces the best results when you have a Dedicated place where your brain instantly knows it’s writing time. For me, it’s at my desk for business and my favorite coffee shop (pre-COVID of course) for my personal writing. It doesn’t really matter where as long as it’s the place where you’ve trained your brain to shift into writer mode.

After the dedicated place, it’s choosing a time of day when your mind is most creative or a time when you can be Consistent. Then decide for how long. Once you have those two steps down, like a new puppy, you train yourself to Sit and Stay.

When you put the time in, you can’t help but produce. You can add music, flowers, coffee, tea, or chocolate, any of the niceties you want to these three key ingredients, but don’t forget the DCSS!

Enjoy!
