You’ve Written Your Book. Now What?
After all your hard work and perseverance, your book is done – or at least for now. So what’s next? If you want it to be successful, It’s time to invest in its future.
First, it needs a good edit. Whether going to a General Market Publisher or Self-Publishing, it needs the eyes of a professional. Not just for grammar, but also to catch the holes and inconsistencies in the story, to make sure it is written clearly and carries an authentic voice, to make sure it holds true to the intended theme, and to check its flows so it will engage your reader. Note: Once that step is complete, you have a choice – choose a General Market Publisher or Self-Publish.
If you have the patience, perseverance and a thick skin to go the route of a General Market Publisher, you might want to Google Literary Agents in your genre or get – Guide to Literary Agents 2019: The Most Trusted Guide to Getting Published. (Market) Twenty-eighth Edition, by Robert Lee Brewer
Note: Most publishers do not accept unsolicited proposals or manuscripts. Instead, publishers let the literary agents do the filtering. They are the ones to read your query letters and if interested, ask to see more of your manuscript. (If you’re not a good marketer, I’d be glad to help you with your query letter.)
However, if you want to keep control of all aspects of your book and publish sooner than later, I strongly recommend you consider self-publishing.
Note: Self-Publishing no longer has the stigma it once had.
There are numerous and well-respected self-publishing houses to choose from. And, there are also independent book designers who will give your book a professional look and upload it to Amazon and other online sites. (I highly recommend Clarity Designworks – Carla Green https://claritydesignworks.com/about-contact/)

Next week, we’ll talk about marketing – the next step after your publishing decision.
Enjoy!
